Rapid Tooling

Rapid Tooling for Injection Moulding has traditionally meant that toolmakers build sub standard tooling machined out of soft aluminium with a big sprue shot straight onto the A surface of the part. At WCM we don’t offer down and dirty injection mould tools for prototyping. To get quality parts you need quality tooling, rapid.

Rapid CNC Tooling

CNC Machined Rapid Tools are designed directly from our Clients CAD data, then high-speed CNC machined in P20 tool steel, we use a unique standard bolster system, only inserts of the core and cavity part need to be produced, dropped into our bolsters and assembled ready for moulding. Combine this with manual core removal to we keep costs low and lead times short.

Rapid Direct Metal Sintered Tooling

Rapid Direct Metal Sintering Technology is the fastest growing Rapid Manufacturing Technology globally. WCM have been utilizing and harnessing this technology over the last four years in to generate rapid tooling inserts for injection and blow-mould tooling, wax injection tools, press tooling and metal components.

It is an additive process growing the components and tooling, during the building of an injection mould tool for instance, core and cavity, conformal cooling, gates and feeds, ejector pin holes and fixing details can all be included in to one operation. This has a marked effect on cost and lead-time as geometry, once dependent on only being formed by EDM.

We manufacture in two materials Nickel-Bronze (DM20), which is slightly harder wearing than aluminium, and Steel (DS20), which is nearer to P20 steel in hardness.  DM20 will produce up to 30,000 injection moulded components, the DS20 is ideal for medium-volume tooling solutions up to 250,000 parts can be produced.
